Paradoxically, Christianity is vital for America's survival.

This book is an Orthodox rabbi's profoundly personal statement about
the importance of Christian faith to the survival of American
civilization. Precisely because I am a Jew, a religious leader, and a
student of my people's history in its two millenia of exile, I felt
compelled to write this book. We Jews have a religious obligation to
acknowledge the good done to us -- an obligation we have shamefully
neglected. Indeed far too many Jewish leaders vilify religious
Christians, even while accepting their support for Israel and other
causes. Many Jews--including some of my dearest friends--feel
threatened or insulted by the assertion that America is, and should
be, a Christian nation. On the contrary, such a statement, with which
I heartily agree, should be welcomed by Jews and all other minorities.
No one is suggesting that Christian theology should in any way be
imposed on Americans, and the Constitution would utterly forbid such
an imposition. But in the realms of ethics (how we behave as
individuals toward one another) and politics (how we order our lives
together with one another), a great many well-meaning, patriotic
Americans believe that we should find guidance in the Laws of Moses,
and I am proud to stand among them.

In this book I answer questions such as 1)Why are Jews so liberal? 2)
Why political conservatism and free market capitalism depend on
religious Faith. 3)Why anti-Semitism and racism are not bigger threats
to America than sexual depravity.

I show that the underdog is not always noble and the poor are not
automatically virtuous. Also that anti-Semitism is more of a political
bludgeon to silence conservatives than a real threat to Jews today. I
wrote this book in the sincere hope that it will not only be

His new book "Jewish History, Jewish Religion" about Jewish hatred and
contempt toward Gentiles, is highly recommended. Shahak, who came to
Israel in 1945 after surviving the concentration camp in Belsen during
the Holocaust, contends that the potential for Israel's right-wing
Jewish religious movements to seize power represents a threat to the
peace of Israel and to the Zionist movement. He posits that Israel as
a Jewish state constitutes a danger not only to itself and its
inhabitants, but to all Jews and to all other people and states in the
Middle East. Shahak, who was raised as an Orthodox Jew, condemns what
he sees as discrimination against non-Jewish citizens of Israel. The
real test facing both Israeli and diaspora Jews is the test of their
self-criticism, which must include the critique of the Jewish past.
Most disturbing, Shahak insists that the religion, in its classical
and talmudic form, is "poisoning minds and hearts."

You must go to Israel Shamir's website and read some of the articles
written by this prolific author.

Israel Shamir is a critically acclaimed and respected Russian Israeli
Writer and Journalist. He wrote for Haaretz, BBC, Pravda and
translated Agnon, Joyce and Homer into Russian. He lives in Jaffa and
has become a leading champion of the 'One Man, One Vote, One State'
solution in all of Palestine/Israel. While in Moscow, he reported for
the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, but was sacked for publishing an
article calling to the return the Palestinian refugees and the
rebuilding of their ruined villages. He wrote for various Russian
newspapers and magazines, including Pravda and Zavtra weekly. In 1993,
he returned to Israel and settled in Jaffa, Israel.

Israel Shamir writes about how the Palestinian people are treated in
the modern police state called Israel.

Shamir draws an apt analogy when he asserts that the Palestinians are
being treated identical to the way the Nazi's treated the Jews in the
Warsaw Ghetto, gradually wearing them down through various means of
oppression.

If you read 10 or 20 articles on the Shamir website you will be
exposed to news that is completely ignored and is unreported by the
mainstream media. Shamir writes about how the "Zion-nazi" state of
Israel is using numerous methods to oppress the Palestinian people
including: imprisonment of innocents without any due process and no
phone call, crowding 10 or more men into a small cell with no toilet
and no bed, large fines for minor infractions of unjust and
unnecessary laws, total subjection of the Palestinian people via
bureaucratic oppression and red tape nightmares, requiring "internal
passports" and denial of the right to travel without identification,
denial of employment, denial of the right to vote, theft of lands
owned by Palestinian families for generations, bulldozing of the homes
of Palestinians that were in their families for generations, rape of
Palestinian women by Israeli soldiers, torture of Palestinian
prisoners who have not even been tried or convicted by a court and
finally the murder or "disappearing" of certain Palestinians who are
never seen again.

#6 - The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish

The author portrays the lawsuits against Swiss banks as the doings of
the Jewish liquor tycoon Edgar Bronfman (eager to Augment his $3
billion net worth) and New York Sen. Al D'Amato (courting Jewish money
and votes). In Finkelstein's account, Bronfman's World Jewish Congress
"working with...the gamut of Holocaust institutions mobilized the
entire U.S. political establishment. >From President Clinton, who
buried the hatchet with D'Amato, ... through 11 agencies of the
federal government as well as the House and Senate, down to state and
local governments across the country, bipartisan pressures were
brought to bear as one public official after another lined up to
denounce the perfidious Swiss."

Jews call the tune, the world dances. For good measure, Finkelstein
quotes approvingly a critic of the lawsuits: "It is easy to understand
why many Swiss believe their country was the victim of an
international conspiracy." Finkelstein main thesis of the book is that
this "Holocaust Industry" is doing more harm than good and that the
rise of anti-semitism is Europe can be traced in part to the anger of
gentiles over being endlessly extorted for Billions of dollars in the
name of the Holocaust.

Chapter 3 of Finkelstein's book is probably the most telling, as it
rips apart the Holocaust industry's shakedown for compensation money
from Switzerland. This episode amounted to nothing less than blackmail
of the Swiss, and Finkelstein openly admits this in light of all the
evidence. Survivor numbers were grossly and unrealistically inflated,
non-Jewish victims of Nazi persecution were conveniently shoved aside,
an accurate Volcker Commission headed by scholars of the Nazi era
later showed that the compensation Switzerland awarded to Jewish
groups in the US (who spoke on behalf of the survivors) was a totally
inflated $1.25 billion (dished out even before historical commissions
could learn the accurate truth and draft out a viable and realistic
amount of money for the Swiss to pay), and that the host of many of
these quasi truth and reconciliation commissions for European
countries allegedly harboring Holocaust-era assets are themselves
guilty of all those things the Holocaust industry pointed at the
Swiss. Yet the US, nor American Jewish groups, are too keen on
demanding compensation from what Finkelstein calls the 'corporate
headquarters of the Holocaust industry'

entertaining biography of the five Jewish men who were the moving
forces behind the creation of America's motion picture industry.

of culture that are compatible with the continuity of Jewish
identification.

Particular attention is paid to Boasian anthropology, psychoanalysis,
leftist political ideology and behavior, the Frankfurt School of
Social Research, and the efforts to influence United States
immigration policy.

immigration policy. In addition to a periodic interest in fostering
the immigration of co-religionists...Jews have an interest in opposing

JOHN SACK is a brilliant Jewish-American journalist. John Sack wrote
about it in his Eye for Eye, a chilling book about horrible revenge
exacted by Jews from the German civilians after WWII. This book tells
of tortures, 'extra-judicial killings', mass poison and other horrors
committed by Jews against German civilians at the end of WWII. You are
not likely to get this book, as the Jewish establishment succeeded to
suppress it and keep it out of bookshops. Israel Shamir writes the
following about John Sack: "Since 1945, Germans have atoned for
committed atrocities. Their remorse broke their will. But there is
little remorse among the Jews for the transfers and massacres. John
Sack, an American Jewish writer, described Jewish participation in the
post-1945 atrocities in his book An Eye for an Eye. This publication
could have become a beginning of a catharsis, of a deep regret and
remorse. Instead, the book was banned and Sack became a non-person."

"Facts are Facts." You can find it on the Internet by doing a Google
search.

Benjamin H. Freedman was one of the most intriguing and amazing
individuals of the 20th century. Mr. Freedman, born in 1890, was a
successful Jewish businessman of New York City who was at one time the
principal owner of the Woodbury Soap Company. He broke with organized
Jewry after the Judeo-Communist victory of 1945, and spent the
remainder of his life and the great preponderance of his considerable
fortune, at least 2.5 million dollars, exposing the Jewish tyranny
which has enveloped the United States. Mr. Freedman knew what he was
talking about because he had been an insider at the highest levels of
Jewish organizations and Jewish machinations to gain power over our
nation. Mr. Freedman was personally acquainted with Bernard Baruch,
Samuel Untermyer, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, Joseph Kennedy,
and John F. Kennedy, and many more movers and shakers of our times.

His primary thesis is that Christianity is responsible for most of the
advances in Western Civilization and the world concerning basic human
rights. He fears to think of a planet returned to barbarism and says
that this would occur if Christianity is further marginalized or
eliminated. Freedman writes that Christianity is under attack by an
international conspiracy. He explains who is behind this drive to
destroy the Christian foundations of the West. Freedman also explains
that Jesus was not a Jew, but rather a Judean and he elaborates on the
importance of this distinction. He says that the modern Jews are not
the Jews of the Bible but rather an Asiatic tribe of Khazars who are
the progenitors of the modern Talmudic Judaism. Freedman writes that
the Talmud is the source of evil in modern Judaism and that Talmudic
Judaism is out to destroy both traditional Christianity and
traditional Mosaic Judaism as well. Freedman quotes extensively from
the Talmud proving it to be a very perverse document.

BRIT HUME, HOST: It has been more than 16 years since a civilian working for the Navy was charged with passing secrets to Israel. Jonathan Pollard pled guilty to conspiracy to commit espionage and is serving a life sentence. At first, Israeli leaders claimed Pollard was part of a rogue operation, but later took responsibility for his work.

Now Fox News has learned some U.S. investigators believe that there are Israelis again very much engaged in spying in and on the U.S., who may have known things they didn't tell us before Sept. 11. Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron has details in the first of a four-part series.

CARL CAMERON, FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Since Sept. 11, more than 60 Israelis have been arrested or detained, either under the new patriot anti-terrorism law, or for immigration violations. A handful of active Israeli military were among those detained, according to investigators, who say some of the detainees also failed polygraph questions when asked about alleged surveillance activities against and in the United States.

There is no indication that the Israelis were involved in the 9/11 attacks, but investigators suspect that they Israelis may have gathered intelligence about the attacks in advance, and not shared it. A highly placed investigator said there are "tie-ins." But when asked for details, he flatly refused to describe them, saying, "evidence linking these Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It's classified information."

Fox News has learned that one group of Israelis, spotted in North Carolina recently, is suspected of keeping an apartment in California to spy on a group of Arabs who the United States is also investigating for links to terrorism. Numerous classified documents obtained by Fox News indicate that even prior to Sept. 11, as many as 140 other Israelis had been detained or arrested in a secretive and sprawling investigation into suspected espionage by Israelis in the United States.

Investigators from numerous government agencies are part of a working group that's been compiling evidence since the mid '90s. These documents detail hundreds of incidents in cities and towns across the country that investigators say, "may well be an organized intelligence gathering activity."

The first part of the investigation focuses on Israelis who say they are art students from the University of Jerusalem and Bazala Academy. They repeatedly made contact with U.S. government personnel, the report says, by saying they wanted to sell cheap art or handiwork.

Documents say they, "targeted and penetrated military bases." The DEA, FBI and dozens of government facilities, and even secret offices and unlisted private homes of law enforcement and intelligence personnel. The majority of those questioned, "stated they served in military intelligence, electronic surveillance intercept and or explosive ordinance units."

Another part of the investigation has resulted in the detention and arrests of dozens of Israelis at American mall kiosks, where they've been selling toys called Puzzle Car and Zoom Copter. Investigators suspect a front.

Shortly after The New York Times and Washington Post reported the Israeli detentions last months, the carts began vanishing. Zoom Copter's Web page says, "We are aware of the situation caused by thousands of mall carts being closed at the last minute. This in no way reflects the quality of the toy or its salability. The problem lies in the operators' business policies."

Why would Israelis spy in and on the U.S.? A general accounting office investigation referred to Israel as country A and said, "According to a U.S. intelligence agency, the government of country A conducts the most aggressive espionage operations against the U.S. of any U.S. ally."

A defense intelligence report said Israel has a voracious appetite for information and said, "the Israelis are motivated by strong survival instincts which dictate every possible facet of their political and economical policies. It aggressively collects military and industrial technology and the U.S. is a high priority target."

The document concludes: "Israel possesses the resources and technical capability to achieve its collection objectives."

A spokesman for the Israeli embassy here in Washington issued a denial saying that any suggestion that Israelis are spying in or on the U.S. is "simply not true." There are other things to consider. And in the days ahead, we'll take a look at the U.S. phone system and law enforcement's methods for wiretaps. And an investigation that both have been compromised by our friends overseas.

HUME: Carl, what about this question of advanced knowledge of what was going to happen on 9/11? How clear are investigators that some Israeli agents may have known something?

CAMERON: It's very explosive information, obviously, and there's a great deal of evidence that they say they have collected — none of it necessarily conclusive. It's more when they put it all together. A bigger question, they say, is how could they not have know? Almost a direct quote.

HUME: Going into the fact that they were spying on some Arabs, right?

CAMERON: Correct.

BRIT HUME, HOST: Last time we reported on the approximately 60 Israelis who had been detained in connection with the Sept. 11 terrorism investigation. Carl Cameron reported that U.S. investigators suspect that some of these Israelis were spying on Arabs in this country, and may have turned up information on the planned terrorist attacks back in September that was not passed on.

Tonight, in the second of four reports on spying by Israelis in the U.S., we learn about an Israeli-based private communications company, for whom a half-dozen of those 60 detained suspects worked. American investigators fear information generated by this firm may have fallen into the wrong hands and had the effect of impeded the Sept. 11 terror inquiry. Here's Carl Cameron's second report.

CARL CAMERON, FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Fox News has learned that some American terrorist investigators fear certain suspects in the Sept. 11 attacks may have managed to stay ahead of them, by knowing who and when investigators are calling on the telephone. How?

By obtaining and analyzing data that's generated every time someone in the U.S. makes a call.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What city and state, please?

CAMERON: Here's how the system works. Most directory assistance calls, and virtually all call records and billing in the U.S. are done for the phone companies by Amdocs Ltd., an Israeli-based private elecommunications company.

Amdocs has contracts with the 25 biggest phone companies in America, and more worldwide. The White House and other secure government phone lines are protected, but it is virtually impossible to make a call on normal phones without generating an Amdocs record of it.

In recent years, the FBI and other government agencies have investigated Amdocs more than once. The firm has repeatedly and adamantly denied any security breaches or wrongdoing. But sources tell Fox News that in 1999, the super secret national security agency, headquartered in northern Maryland, issued what's called a Top Secret sensitive compartmentalized information report, TS/SCI, warning that records of calls in the United States were getting into foreign hands – in Israel, in particular.

Investigators don't believe calls are being listened to, but the data about who is calling whom and when is plenty valuable in itself. An internal Amdocs memo to senior company executives suggests just how Amdocs generated call records could be used. “Widespread data mining techniques and algorithms.... combining both the properties of the customer (e.g., credit rating) and properties of the specific ‘behavior….’” Specific behavior, such as who the customers are calling.

The Amdocs memo says the system should be used to prevent phone fraud. But U.S. counterintelligence analysts say it could also be used to spy through the phone system. Fox News has learned that the N.S.A has held numerous classified conferences to warn the F.B.I. and C.I.A. how Amdocs records could be used. At one NSA briefing, a diagram by the Argon national lab was used to show that if the phone records are not secure, major security breaches are possible.

Another briefing document said, "It has become increasingly apparent that systems and networks are vulnerable.…Such crimes always involve unauthorized persons, or persons who exceed their authorization...citing on exploitable vulnerabilities."

Those vulnerabilities are growing, because according to another briefing, the U.S. relies too much on foreign companies like Amdocs for high-tech equipment and software. "Many factors have led to increased dependence on code developed overseas.... We buy rather than train or develop solutions."

U.S. intelligence does not believe the Israeli government is involved in a misuse of information, and Amdocs insists that its data is secure. What U.S. government officials are worried about, however, is the possibility that Amdocs data could get into the wrong hands, particularly organized crime. And that would not be the first thing that such a thing has happened. Fox News has documents of a 1997 drug trafficking case in Los Angeles, in which telephone information, the type that Amdocs collects, was used to "completely compromise the communications of the FBI, the Secret Service, the DEO and the LAPD."

We'll have that and a lot more in the days ahead – Brit.

HUME: Carl, I want to take you back to your report last night on those 60 Israelis who were detained in the anti-terror investigation, and the suspicion that some investigators have that they may have picked up information on the 9/11 attacks ahead of time and not passed it on.

There was a report, you'll recall, that the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, did indeed send representatives to the U.S. to warn, just before 9/11, that a major terrorist attack was imminent. How does that leave room for the lack of a warning?

CAMERON: I remember the report, Brit. We did it first internationally right here on your show on the 14th. What investigators are saying is that that warning from the Mossad was nonspecific and general, and they believe that it may have had something to do with the desire to protect what are called sources and methods in the intelligence community. The suspicion being, perhaps those sources and methods were taking place right here in the United States.

The question came up in select intelligence committee on Capitol Hill today. They intend to look into what we reported last night, and specifically that possibility – Brit.

HUME: So in other words, the problem wasn't lack of a warning, the problem was lack of useful details?

CAMERON: Quantity of information.

HUME: All right, Carl, thank you very much.

Liberating’ the Mideast: Why Do We Never Learn?

On March 8, 1917, Lt. Gen. Stanley Maude issued a “Proclamation to the People of the Wilayat of Baghdad”. Maude’s Anglo-Indian Army of the Tigres had invaded and occupied Iraq — after storming up the country from Basra — to “free” its people from their dictators. “Our armies do not come into your cities and lands as conquerors or enemies, but as liberators,” the British announced.

“People of Baghdad, remember for 26 generations you have suffered under strange tyrants who have ever endeavoured to set one Arab house against another in order that they might profit by your dissensions.

“This policy is abhorrent to Great Britain and her Allies for there can be neither peace nor prosperity where there is enmity or misgovernment.”

Gen. Maude, of course, was the Gen. Tommy Franks of his day, and his proclamation — so rich in irony now that President George Bush is uttering equally mendacious sentiments — was intended to persuade Iraqis that they should accept foreign occupation while Britain secured the country’s oil.

Gen. Maude’s chief political officer, Sir Percy Cox, called on Iraq’s Arab leaders, who were not identified, to participate in the government in collaboration with the British authorities and spoke of liberation, freedom, past glories, future greatness and — here the ironies come in spades — it expressed the hope that the people of Iraq would find unity.

The British commander cabled to London that “local conditions do not permit of employing in responsible positions any but British officers competent... to deal with people of the country. Before any truly Arab facade (sic) can be applied to edifice, it seems essential that foundation of law and order should be well and truly laid.” As David Fromkin noted in his magisterial A Peace to End all Peace — essential reading for America’s future army of occupation — the antipathy of the Sunni minority and the Shiite majority of Iraq, the rivalries of tribes and clans “made it difficult to achieve a single unified government that was at the same time representative, effective and widely supported”. Whitehall failed, as Fromkin caustically notes, “to think through in practical detail how to fulfill the promises gratuitously made to a section of the local inhabitants”. There was even a problem with the Kurds, since the British could not make up their mind as to whether they should be absorbed into the new state of Iraq or allowed to form an independent Kurdistan. The French were originally to have been awarded Mosul in northern Iraq but gave up their claim in return for — again, ironies — a major share in the new Turkish Petroleum Company, confiscated by the British and recreated as the Iraq Petroleum Company.

How many times has the West marched into the Middle East in so brazen a fashion? Gen. Sir Edward Allenby “liberated” Palestine only a few months after Gen. Maude “liberated” Iraq. The French turned up to “liberate” Lebanon and Syria a couple of years later, slaughtering the Syrian forces loyal to King Faisal who dared to suggest that French occupation was not the future they wanted.

What is it, I sometimes wonder, about our constant failure to learn the lessons of history, to repeat — almost word for word in the case of Gen. Maude’s proclamation — the same gratuitous promises and lies? A copy of Gen. Maude’s original proclamation went under the hammer at a British auction at Swindon last week, but I’ll wager more than the 1,400 pounds sterling it made that America’s forthcoming proclamation to the “liberated” people of Iraq reads almost exactly the same.

Take a look at Article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations — on which Bush claims to be such an expert — that allowed the British and French to divide those territories they had just “liberated” from Ottoman dictators. “To those colonies and territories which as a consequence of the late war have ceased to be under the sovereignty of the states which formerly governed them, and which are inhabited by peoples not yet able to stand by themselves... there should be applied the principle that the well-being and development of such peoples form a sacred trust of civilization... the best method is that the tutelage of such peoples should be entrusted to advanced nations who, by reason of their resources, their experience or their geographical position, can best undertake this responsibility...” What is it about “liberation” in the Middle East? What is this sacred trust — a ghost of the same “trusteeship” the US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, now promotes for Iraq’s oil — that the West constantly wishes to visit upon the Middle East? Why do we so frequently want to govern these peoples, these “tribes with flags” as Sir Steven Runciman, that great historian of the 11th- and 12th-century Crusades, once called them? Indeed, Pope Urban’s call for the first Crusade in 1095, reported at the time by at least three chroniclers, would find a resonance even among the Christian fundamentalists who, along with Israel’s supporters, are now so keen for the United States to invade Iraq.

Urban told his listeners the Turks were maltreating the inhabitants of Christian lands — an echo here of the human rights abuses which supposedly upset Bush — and described the suffering of pilgrims, urging the Christian West’s formerly fratricidal antagonists to fight a “righteous” war. His conflict, of course, was intended to “liberate” Christians rather than Muslims who, along with the Jews, the Crusaders slaughtered as soon as they arrived in the Middle East.

This notion of “liberation” in the Middle East has almost always been accompanied by another theme: The necessity of overthrowing tyrants.

The Crusaders were as meticulous about their invasions as the US Central Command at Tampa, Florida, is today.

Marino Sanudo, born in Venice around 1260, describes how the Western armies chose to put their forces ashore in Egypt with a first disembarkation of 15,000 infantrymen along with 300 cavalry (the latter being the Crusader version of an armoured unit). In Beirut, I even have copies of the West’s 13th-century invasion maps. Napoleon produced a few of his own in 1798 when he invaded Egypt after 20 years of allegedly irresponsible and tyrannical rule by Murad Bey and Ibrahim Bey. Claude Etienne Savary, the French equivalent of all those Washington pundits who groan today over the suffering of the Iraqi people under President Saddam, wrote in 1775 that in Cairo under Murad Bey “death may prove the consequence of the slightest indiscretion”. Under the Beys, the city “groans under their yoke”. Which is pretty much how we now picture Baghdad and Basra under President Saddam.

In fact, President Saddam’s promises to destroy America’s invasion force have a remarkable echo in the exclamation of one of the 18th-century Mameluke princes in Egypt, who, told of a looming French invasion, responded with eerily familiar words: “Let the Franks come. We shall crush them beneath our horses’ hooves.”

Napoleon, of course, did all the crushing, and his first proclamation (he, too, was coming to “liberate” the people of Egypt from their oppressors) included an appeal to Egyptian notables to help him run the government. “O shayks, ‘qadis’, imams, and officers of the town, tell your nation that the French are friends of true Muslims... Blessed are those Egyptians who agree with us.” Napoleon went on to set up an “administrative council” in Egypt, very like the one which the Bush administration says it intends to operate under US occupation. And in due course the “shayks” and “qadis” and imams rose up against French occupation in Cairo in 1798.

If Napoleon entered upon his rule in Egypt as a French revolutionary, Gen. Allenby, when he entered Jerusalem in December 1917, had provided David Lloyd George with the city he wanted as a Christmas present. Its liberation, the British prime minister later noted with almost Crusader zeal, meant that Christendom had been able “to regain possession of its sacred shrines”. He talked about “the calling of the Turkish bluff” as “the beginning of the crack-up of that military impostorship which the incompetence of our war direction had permitted to intimidate us for years”, shades, here, of the American regret that it never took the 1991 Gulf War to Baghdad; Lloyd George was “finishing the job” of overcoming Ottoman power just as George Bush Junior now intends to “finish the job” started by his father.

And always, without exception, there were those tyrants and dictators to overthrow in the Middle East. In World War II, we “liberated” Iraq a second time from its pro-Nazi administration. The British “liberated” Lebanon from Vichy rule with a promise of independence from France, a promise which Charles de Gaulle tried to renege on until the British almost went to war with the Free French in Syria.

Lebanon has suffered an awful lot of “liberations”. The Israelis — for Arabs, an American, “Western” implantation in the Middle East — claimed twice to be anxious to “liberate” Lebanon from PLO “terrorism” by invading in 1978 and 1982, and leaving in humiliation only two years ago. America’s own military intervention in Beirut in 1982 was blown apart by a truck-bomb at the US Marine headquarters the following year. And what did President Ronald Reagan tell the world? “Lebanon is central to our credibility on a global scale. We cannot pick and choose where we will support freedom... If Lebanon ends up under the tyranny of forces hostile to the West, not only will our strategic position in the eastern Mediterranean be threatened, but also the stability of the entire Middle East, including the vast resources of the Arabian Peninsula.” Once more, we, the West, were going to protect the Middle East from tyranny. Anthony Eden took the same view of Egypt, anxious to topple the “dictator” Gamal Abdul Nasser, just as Napoleon had been desperate to rescue the Egyptians from the tyranny of the Beys, just as Gen. Maude wanted to rescue Iraq from the tyranny of the Turks, just as George Bush Junior now wants to rescue the Iraqis from the tyranny of President Saddam.

And always, Western invasions were accompanied by declarations that the Americans or the French or just the West in general had nothing against the Arabs, only against the beast-figure who was chosen as the target of our military action.

So what happened to all these fine words? The Crusades were a catastrophe for Christian-Muslim relations. Napoleon left Egypt in humiliation. Britain dropped gas on the recalcitrant Kurds of Iraq before discovering Iraq was ungovernable. Arabs, then Jews, drove the British from Palestine and Jerusalem. The French fought years of insurrection in Syria. In Lebanon, the Americans scuttled away in 1984, along with the French.

And in Iraq in the coming months? What will be the price of our folly this time, of our failure to learn the lessons of history? Only after the United States has completed its occupation we shall find out. It is when the Iraqis demand an end to that occupation, when popular resistance to the American presence by the Shiites and the Kurds and even the Sunnis begins to destroy the military “success” which President Bush will no doubt proclaim when the first US troops enter Baghdad. It is then our real “story” as journalists will begin.

It is then that all the empty words of colonial history, the need to topple tyrants and dictators, to assuage the suffering of the people of the Middle East, to claim that we and we only are the best friends of the Arabs, that we and we only must help them, will unravel.

Here I will make a guess: In the months and years that follow the invasion of Iraq, the US, in its arrogant assumption that it can create “democracy” in the ashes of a Middle East dictatorship as well as take its oil, will suffer the same as the British in Palestine. Of this tragedy, Winston Churchill wrote, and his words are likely to apply to the US in Iraq: “At first, the steps were wide and shallow, covered with a carpet, but in the end the very stones crumbled under their feet.”

Open Letter from a US Citizen to the People of the World

I write to ask for your help in stopping the Bush regime's abuses at home and abroad. The citizens of the United States cannot be counted on to stop Bush. The countries of the United Nations cannot be counted on to stop Bush. But the citizens of the world do have the power to stop Bush simply by keeping their hands in their pockets.

I wonder if you can imagine what it is like in America right now. The people seem to be hypnotized or perhaps walking in their sleep. Propaganda, disinformation, and arousing advertisements combine to induce in the population a constant state of paranoia, smug superiority, and frustrated desire. This volatile emotional state leaves people vulnerable to the seductive rhetoric of a pseudopopulist leader who assures them that they have a right to feel both fearful and grandiose and to blame all of America's problems on foreigners, liberals, and hostile nations.

The atmosphere of these United States these days is ominous. Fascism lurks around every corner. Flags and other patriotic symbols are everywhere -- on the flagpoles, on the buildings, on the cars, and on the people themselves. School teachers are instructed to decorate their classrooms in red, white and blue, and schoolchildren are encouraged to dress in those colors. Every day, Bush or his proxies talk to the American people about our "evil" enemies and our endangered"homeland." We are told that liberty and justice are uniquely American values and that those values, rather than past and ongoing US aggression overseas, are the reasons that terrorists want to kill Americans.
The important thing to remember is that many, perhaps most, of the people really do believe the propaganda; really do fear attack; really do believe that we are going to "liberate" the people of Iraq; and really do believe that those who oppose the war are idiots, cowards, or sycophants of tyranny. They truly do not see that Bush is the more dangerous tyrant; truly do not yet realize that their own civil liberties have been sharply circumscribed by this tyrant; and truly do not comprehend that their own country has been the aggressor again and again and is about to become the aggressor yet again.

Our esteemed "free press" is of little use, being almost wholly controlled by the corporate interests Bush serves. The newspapers and news programs play along with the Bush regime, allowing reports of alleged terrorist threats to supersede news of domestic and international dissent. Thanks to the mediocrity of the public school system, which was designed to produce dutiful workers rather than skeptical thinkers, most Americans lack the analytic skills needed to decipher the daily deluge of propaganda to which they are subjected. Many can't distinguish between advertisements and news or between fact and opinion. Remember, these are the people who believed the newspaper editorialists when they said that the best way to preserve democracy would be to support "President" Bush whether or not he had legitimately gained control of the government.

Of course, that doesn't hold true for everyone in the country. Some did protest the bloodless coup that brought the Bush regime to power and some have been demonstrating against Bush's attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq. Unfortunately, these protests cannot and will not stop Bush. Remember, this is a man who seized power even though he was not elected. He has made it very clear that he doesn't care what the people think. He certainly isn't going to change his course in response to entirely symbolic expressions of dissent by a minority of the population.

If all was right with the world, the United Nations never would have recognized the Bush regime as the legitimate government of the United States. If all was right with the world, the United Nations would reign in any regime that attacks another country without provocation and in defiance of international law. If all was right with the world, the EU and other important trading partners of the United States would make it clear that their markets are closed to rogue nations that break treaties and wage wars of conquest.

Unfortunately, we cannot count on the United Nations or its constituent countries to do the right thing. Thus we must call on our last best hope for peace and freedom: the peace and freedom loving people of the world.

Uncle Sam needs you to save him from George W. Bush. The Industrial Workers of the World used to say that the workers can stop the world just by folding their arms. Similarly, the consumers of the world can interfere with market capitalism just by keeping their hands in their pockets. Bush listens to the language of dollars and cents. When the corporate sponsors who brought him to power begin to complain, then and only then will he change his ways.

If the people of the world are serious about their opposition to a US attack on Iraq, they must stop giving their money to the US military-industrial complex. Ideally, they will boycott all multinational corporations based in the United States, using letters and telephone calls to tell the companies why they are doing so. At minimum, they will reduce their reliance on US goods and services while also reducing their consumption of the fossil fuel that is at the heart of this conflict. As soon as the corporations feel the pinch, they will put the squeeze on Bush.

Please begin to boycott today. Do not worry about hurting the workers, because the budget cuts Bush will use to pay for war will hurt working people and the poor more than any boycott ever could. In addition, by supporting local and non-corporate goods and services, you will be helping to build a better global economy for everyone.

I hope you will choose to act in solidarity with the people of the United States and Iraq by helping to stop a war between those two countries. I promise that if you are ever in a similar situation within your country, I will act in solidarity with you.

LOW INTENSITY NUCLEAR WAR

The death from leukemia of eight Italian peacekeepers stationed in Bosnia and Kosovo sparked an uproar in the Italian Parliament, following the leaking of a secret military document to the Italian newspaper La Republicca. In Portugal, the Defense Ministry was also involved in what amounted to a deliberate camouflage of "the cause of death" of Portuguese peacekeeper Corporal Hugo Paulino. "'Citing "herpes of the brain', the army refused to allow his family to commission a postmortem examination."1 Amidst mounting political pressure, Defense Minister Julio Castro Caldas advised NATO Headquarters in November that he was withdrawing Portuguese troops from Kosovo: "They were not, he said, going to become uranium meat". 2

As the number of cancer cases among Balkans "peacekeepers" rises, NATO's cover-up has started to fracture. Several European governments have been obliged to publicly acknowledge the "alleged health risks" of depleted uranium (DU) shells used by the US Air Force in NATO's 78-day war against Yugoslavia.

The Western media points to an apparent "split" within the military alliance. In fact there was no "division" or disagreement between Washington and its European allies until the scandal broke through the gilded surface.

Italy, Portugal, France and Belgium were fully aware that DU weapons were being used. The health impacts --including mountains of scientific reports-- were known and available to European governments. Italy participated in the scheduling of the A-10 "anti-tank killer" raids (carrying DU shells) out of its Aviano and Gioia del Colle air force bases. The Italian Defense Ministry knew what was happening at military bases under its jurisdiction.

Washington's European partners in NATO including Britain, France, Turkey, Greece have DU weapons in their arsenals. Canada is one of the main suppliers of depleted uranium. NATO countries share full responsibility for the use of weapons banned by the Geneva and Hague conventions and the 1945 Nuremberg Charter on war crimes. 3

Since the Gulf War, Washington launched a "cover-up" on the health impacts of DU toxic radiation known as the "Gulf War Syndrome", with the tacit endorsement of its NATO partners.

While NATO had until recently denied using DU shells in the 1999 war against Yugoslavia, it now admits that although it did use DU ammunition, the shells "have negligible radioactivityÉand [a]ny resulting debris posing any significant risk dissipates soon after the impact." 4 While casually denying "any connection between illness and exposure to depleted uranium", the Pentagon nonetheless concedes --in an ambiguous statement-- that "the main danger posed by depleted uranium occurs if it is inhaled." 5

And who inhales the radioactive dust, which has spread across the Land?

The shrouded statements from European governments convey the uncomfortable illusion that only peacekeepers "might be at risk", --i.e. radioactive particles are only inhaled by military personnel and expatriate civilians, as if nobody else in the Balkans were affected. The impacts on local civilians are not mentioned.

In docile complicity, a new media consensus has unfolded: the mainstream press concurs without further scrutiny that only "peace-keepers" breathe the air. "But what about everybody else."6 In Kosovo some 2 million civilian men, women and children have been exposed to the radioactive fallout since the beginning of the bombing in March 1999. In the Balkans, more than 20 million people are potentially at risk:

"The risk in Kosovo and elsewhere in the Balkans is augmented by the uncertainty of where DU was dropped in whatever form and what winds and surface water movements spread it further. Working the fields, walking about, just being there, touching objects, breathing and drinking water are all risky. A British expert predicted that thousands of people in the Balkans will get sick of DU. The radioactive and toxic DU-oxides don't disintegrate. They are practically permanent." 7

Keep in mind that the heavily armed "peacekeepers" together with United Nations staff and civilian personnel of "humanitarian" organisations entered Kosovo in June 1999. The spread of radioactive dust from DU, however, started on "day one" of the 78 day bombing of Yugoslavia. With the exception of NATO Special Forces --who were assisting the KLA on the ground-- NATO military personnel was not present on the battlefield. In other words, there was no radioactive exposure to NATO troops during a "push button" air war, which the Alliance forces waged from the high skies. Yugoslav civilians are, therefore, at much greater risk because they were exposed to radioactive fallout throughout the bombings as well in the wake of the war. Yet the official communiquŽs suggest that only KFOR troops and expatriate civilians "might be at risk" implying that local civilians simply do not matter. Only servicemen and expatriate personnel have been screened for radiation levels.

CHILDHOOD CANCERS

The first signs of radiation on children, including herpes on the mouth and skin rashes on the back and ankles have been observed in Kosovo.8 In Northern Kosovo --the area least affected by DU shells (see Map at http://balkans.unep.ch/du/targetmap.html) -- 160 people are being treated for cancer.9 The number of leukemia cases in Northern Kosovo has increased by 200 percent since NATO's air campaign, and children have been born with deformities.10 This information regarding civilian victims --which the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) has been careful not to reveal--- refutes NATO's main "assumption" that radioactive dust does not spread beyond the target sites, most of which are in the Southwestern and Southern regions close to the Albanian and Macedonian borders.

These findings are consistent with those from Iraq, where the use of depleted uranium weapons during the 1991 Gulf War resulted in "increases in childhood cancers and leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, lymphomas, and increases in congenital diseases and deformities in foetuses, along with limb reductional abnormalities and increases in genetic abnormalities throughout Iraq."11 Pedriatic examinations on Iraqi children confirm that:

"childhood leukemia has risen 600% in the areas [of Iraq] where DU was used. Stillbirths, births or abortion of fetuses with monstrous abnormalities, and other cancers in children born since [the Gulf War in] 1991 have also been found." 12

COVER-UP

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have tacitly accepted NATO-Pentagon assumptions concerning the health impacts of depleted uranium. When UNEP conducted its first assessment of DU radiation in Kosovo in 1999, NATO refused to provide the mission with maps indicating the locations of "affected areas" (points of impact where DU shells had fallen).

On the pretext that "there was insufficient data available to comprehensively address the issue of the impacts of depleted uranium ordnance," UNEP produced an inconclusive and noncommittal "desk study" which was appended to the 1999 Balkans Task Force Report (BTF) on the environmental impacts of the War. 13 UNEP's desk study pointed to the "possible use of DU" thereby implying that it was still unsure as to whether DU shells had actually been used.

UNEP's evasiveness -claiming lack of sufficient data-- contributed, in the wake of the bombings, to temporarily dissipating public concern. More generally, the UNEP-UNCHS Balkans Task Force report tends to downplay the seriousness of the environmental catastrophe triggered by NATO. Amply documented, the catastrophe was the deliberate result of military planning.14

NATO maps (indicating where DU shells had been targeted) were not required for UNEP and the WHO to conduct an investigation on the health impacts of depleted uranium radiation. A study of this nature --inevitably requiring a team of medical specialists in pedriatics and cancer working in liaison with experts on toxic radiation-- was never carried out. In fact, UNEP's stated "scientific" assumption precluded from the outset a meaningful assessment of the health impacts. According to UNEP:

"the effects of DU are mainly localized in the places DU has been used and the affected areas are likely to be small". 15 See the 1999 desk study, op. cit.)

This proposition (which is presented without scientific proof) is shared by UNEP's sister organization, the WHO:

"You would have to be very close to a damaged tank and be there within seconds of it being hitÉThese soldiers were very unlikely to have been exposed.'' 16

These statements by UN bodies (quoted by NATO and the Pentagon to justify the use of DU weapons) are part and parcel of the camouflage. They convey the illusion that the health risks to peacekeepers and local civilians can easily be dealt with by cordoning off and "cleaning up" the "targeted areas."

The WHO has warned, in this regard, that depleted uranium could affect children playing in these areas "because childrenÉ tend to pick up pieces of dirt or put their toys in their mouth."17 What the WHO fails to acknowledge is that the radioactive dust has already spread beyond the affected areas, implying that children throughout Kosovo are at risk.

This tacit complicity of specialized agencies of the UN is yet another symptom of the deterioration of the United Nations system, which now plays an underhand role in covering up NATO war crimes. Since the Gulf War, the WHO has been instrumental in blocking a meaningful investigation of the health impacts of depleted uranium radiation on Iraqi children, claiming "it had no data to conduct an indepth investigation" 18

UNEP AND NATO WORKING HAND IN GLOVE

Amidst the public outcry and mounting evidence of cancer among Balkans military personnel, UNEP conducted a second assessment in November 2000 which included field measurements of beta and gamma particle radiations in 11 so-called "affected areas" of Kosovo.19

Despite NATO's earlier refusal to collaborate with UNEP, the two organizations are currently working hand in glove. The composition of the mission was established in consultation with NATO. The representative from Greenpeace (involved in the 1999 study) had been dumped. NATO maps were readily available; the investigation was to focus narrowly on the collection of soil, water samples, etc. in 11 selected sites ("affected areas") out of a total of some 72 sites within Kosovo (see NATO map below, at http://balkans.unep.ch/du/targetmap.html ).

The broader health issues were not part of the mission's terms of reference. The two medical researchers dispatched by the WHO in 1999 (as part of the desk study mission) had been replaced with experts from the US Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine (see http://chppm-www.apgea.army.mil/default.htm) and AC Laboratorium Spiez (ACLS), a division of the Swiss Defense Procurement Agency.

AC Laboratorium Spiez (ACLS) has actively collaborated in chemical weapons inspections in Iraq. Under the disguise of Swiss neutrality, ACLS constitutes an informal mouthpiece for NATO. ACLS has been on contract with NATO's "Partnership for Peace" financed by the Swiss government's contribution to the PfP.20

Although the November mission was still under UNEP auspices, the Swiss government was funding most of fieldwork with ACLS --a division of the Swiss military-- playing a central role. The mission --integrated by representatives linked to the Military establishment-- was working on the premise (amply reviewed on ACLS's web page) that DU radioactive dust does not (under any circumstances) travel beyond the "point of release." 21

The results of the report to be published in March 2001 are a foregone conclusion. They focus on radiation levels in the immediate vicinity of the target sites . According to the mission's "back to office report" (January 2001):

"É [A]lready at this stage the Team can conclude that at some of the DU locations, the radiation level is slightly higher above normal at very limited spots. It would therefore be an unnecessary risk to the population to be in direct contact with any remnants of DU ammunition or with the spots where these have been found." 22

DOUBLE STANDARDS

If radioactivity were confined to so-called "very limited spots", why then have KFOR troops been instructed by their governments "not to eat local produceÉ have drinking water flown in Éand that clothes must be destroyed on departure and vehicles decontaminated."23 According to Paul Sullivan, executive director of the National Gulf War Resource Center, depleted uranium in Yugoslavia could affect "agricultural areas, places where livestock graze and where crops are grown, thereby introducing the specter of possible contamination of the food chain." (In November 2000, Gulf War veterans affected by DU launched a class action law-suit against the US government).

CONTAMINATION OVER A LARGE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA

According to NATO sources (communicated to UNEP), some 112 sites in Yugoslavia (of which 72 are in Kosovo) were targeted during the war with depleted uranium antitank shells. Between 30,000 and 50,000 DU shells were fired.

Scientific evidence amply confirms that the DU radioactive aerosol spreads from "the point of release" over a large geographical area suggesting that large parts of the province of Kosovo are contaminated. "[R]adioactive derivatives can linger in the air for monthsÉ ''Just one particle in the lungs is enoughÉ a single particle could travel to the lymph nodes, where the radioactivity would lower the body's defenses against lymphomas and leukemia'' 24

According to World renowned radiologist Dr. Rosalie Bertell:

When used in war, the depleted uranium (DU) bursts into flame [and] releasing a deadly radioactive aerosol of uranium, unlike anything seen before. It can kill everyone in a tank. This ceramic aerosol is much lighter than uranium dust. It can travel in air tens of kilometres from the point of release, or be stirred up in dust and resuspended in air with wind or human movement. It is very small and can be breathed in by anyone: a baby, pregnant woman, the elderly, the sick. This radioactive ceramic can stay deep in the lungs for years, irradiating the tissue with powerful alpha particles within about a 30 micron sphere, causing emphysema and/or fibrosis. The ceramic can also be swallowed and do damage to the gastro-intestinal tract. In time, it penetrates the lung tissue and enters into the blood stream. ...It can also initiate cancer or promote cancers which have been initiated by other cancinogens". 25

The targeted sites within Kosovo (see NATO map at http://balkans.unep.ch/du/targetmap.html) although concentrated on the South-western border are scattered throughout the province. Most of the villages and cities including Pristina, Prizren and Pec lie within less than 20 km. of the 72 DU target sites confirming that the entire province is contaminated.

NATO WAR CRIMES

The bombing of Yugoslavia is best described as a "low intensity nuclear war" using toxic radioactive shells and missiles. Amply documented, the radioactive fall-out potentially puts millions of people at risk throughout the Balkans.

In March 1999, NATO launched the air raids invoking broad humanitarian principles and ideals. NATO had "come to the rescue" of ethnic Albanian Kosovars on the grounds they were being massacred by Serb forces. The forensic reports by the FBI and Europol confirm that the massacres did not occur. In a cruel irony, Albanian Kosovar civilians are among the main victims of DU radiation.

To maintain the cover-up, NATO is now prepared to reveal a small fraction of the truth. The military Alliance --in liaison with NATO member governments-- wants at all cost to maintain the focus on "peacekeepers" and keep local civilians out of the picture, because if the entire truth gets out, then people might start asking questions such as "how is it that the Kosovar Albanians, the people we were supposed to rescue are now the victims?" In both Bosnia and Kosovo, the UN has been careful not to record cancer cases among civilians. The narrow focus on "peacekeepers" is part of the cover-up. It distracts public opinion from the broader issue of civilian victims.

The primary victims of DU weapons are children, making their use a "war crime against children." The use of depleted uranium munitions is only one among several NATO crimes against humanity committed in Iraq and the Balkans

According to official records, some 1800 Balkans peacekeepers (Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo) suffer from health ailments related to DU radiation.26. Assuming the same level of risk (as a percentage of population), the numbers of civilians throughout former Yugoslavia affected by DU radiation would be in the tens of thousands. British scientist Roger Coghill suggests, in this regard, that "throughout the Balkan region, there will be an extra 10,150 deaths from cancer because of the use of DU. That will include local people, K-FOR personnel, aid workers, everyone."27 Moreover, according to a report published in Athens during the War, the impacts of depleted uranium are likely to extend beyond the Balkans. Albania, and Macedonia but also Greece, Italy, Austria and Hungary face a potential threat to human health as a result of the use of radioactive depleted uranium shells during the 1999 War.

While no overall data on civilian deaths have been recorded, partial evidence confirms that a large numbers of civilians have already died as result of DU radiation since the war in Bosnia:

"DU radiation and an apparent use of defoliants by US/NATO troops against Serbian land and population [in Bosnia], have caused many birth defects among babies born after the US/NATO bombing and occupation; the magnitude of this problem has stunned Serbian medical experts and panicked the population." 28

A recent account points to several hundred deaths of civilians solely in one Bosnian village:

The village is empty, the cemetery full. Soon there will be no more room for the dead. Among refugee families who moved to Bratunac from Hadzici [in the outskirts of Sarajevo] there is a hardly a household not cloaked in mourningÉOn them are fresh wreaths, some with flowers that have not yet wilted. On the crosses the years of death 1998, 1999, 2000 and the grave of a 20 year-old woman at the end of the rows. She died a few days agoÉ No one could even imagine that in only one or two years the part of the cemetery set aside for civilians would be doubly fullÉ It happens often that one of the natives of Hadzici will suddenly die. Or they will go to see the doctor in Belgrade and when they come back their relatives will tell us that they are dying of cancerÉ [C]hief doctor Slavica JovanovicÉconducted an investigation and proved that in 1998 the mortality rate far exceeded the birth rate. She showed that it wasn't just a question of fate but something far more seriousÉ 'Zoran Stankovic, the renowned pathologist from the Military Medical Academy (VMA) determined that over 200 of his patients from this area died of cancer, most probably due to the effects of depleted uranium in dropped NATO bombs five years ago. But someone quickly silenced the public and everything was hushed up. 'You see, our cemetery is full of fresh graves while the people from Vinca [Nuclear Institute] claim that uranium isn't dangerous. What other kind of evidence do you need if people are dying?É' The refugees from Hadzici arrived in Bratunac in a sizeable number. There were almost 5,000 of them. There were 1,000 just in the collective centers. Now, says Zelenovic, 'there are about 600 of them left. And they certainly had nowhere else to go' É Someone dies of cancer every third day; there is no more room in the cemeteries."29

Last year it was reported on an encouraging lower court victory by two TV reporters who had been fired by a Florida FOX affiliate for refusing to air a story containing false and inaccurate information. The story, describing the dangers of widespread growth hormone use by dairy farmers, was ultimately slanted by FOX to protect its advertising revenues.

An Organic Consumers report now brings us the saddening news that a Florida Appeals court has overturned the original ruling on the grounds that there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization.

Abboud gives FoxNews a taste of its own medicine
The interview between a Fox interviewer and the Lebanese Ambassador to the U. S., Mr. Farid Abboud.

Fox Interviewer: Mr. Ambassador, do you consider Hizbollah a terrorist
organization ?

Abboud: Yes, Sharon is a terrorist !

Fox: Mr. Ambassador, this was not my question. I asked you about the operations of Hizbollah in the targeting and killing of innocent civilians. How do you view Hizbollah ?

Abboud: Yes, Sharon the terrorist has killed thousands upon thousands of civilians. He is the biggest terrorist out there !

Fox: Mr. Ambassador. Please answer my question. Do you consider Hizbollah a terrorist organization or not ??? Are you against the killing of innocent civilians ?!

Abboud: Of course I am against the killing of innocent civilians. You have to define who the innocent civilians are. Sharon, the terrorist has killed many thousands upon thousands of innocent civilians and he is continuing to do so !

Fox: But what about Hizbollah ? Are you telling us that Hizbollah never killed any civilians or plotted to kill any innocent civilians ?

Abboud: Hizbollah is a resistance movement. They have a place in the Lebanese parliament and they are fighting for justice and for a good cause. If there were innocent civilians hurt in the process, they are a casualty of war. Hizbollah does not target civilians on purpose, unlike the war monger, Sharon, whose only targets have been civilians, including children !!!

Fox: Mr. Ambassador, does this mean you condone the suicide bombers ?!

Abboud: I do not condone the actions of the war criminal Sharon !!!

Fox interviewer (with apparent frustration): Mr. Ambassador, please stop evading my questions and answer them directly ! Do you condone the suicide bombers ?!

Abboud: I do not condone the killing of innocent civilians, but we have to define who is an innocent civilian and who is not !!! If a Palestinian suicide bomber kills a bunch of Israeli soldiers who are committing atrocities against the defenseless Palestinian population, do you consider these soldiers as innocent civilians ???

Fox interviewer (sighing): Mr. Abboud, do you recognize Israel's right to exist ?

Abboud: Yes, I recognize PALESTINE'S right to exist !!!

Fox interviewer (no words to describe his face): Mr. Ambassador.

Please stop this aversion in answering, and answer our specific questions !!! Do you recognize Israel's right to exist or not ?!

Abboud: Israel already exists sir. It does not need my recognition. It is the recognition of Palestine to exist that should be addressed !!!

Fox: Mr. Ambassador, why are you so one sided and biased in answering our questions ???

Abboud: Sir, it is you who is very one-sided and biased in your questioning !!!
